The Sailing Ship

Dear Future Mrs. O.

I’m seeking you to help me build our ship.
This ship is going to be bigger, stronger and more outstanding
than the Titanic ever was in all its glory,
I promise.

Now you probably think that I’m crazy but let me first explain myself.
I would see it as building a house.
Starting from the foundation instead of building it on mere sand,
we’ll start it on the Rock and make Him our cornerstone.
With Him as our foundation,
our ship will grow into a friend-ship
and through Him our friendship will become a relation-ship.
By the time we are done building, I promise,
we will name our ship “Union”.

…When the Titanic was finished,
many said that it was the greatest ship of all time.
When we finish building our own ship,
it’s going to be so much bigger, stronger and more outstanding
than the Titanic ever was in all its glory,
not because of what people may say
but because God will be in it sailing with us, in our “Union”,
I promise.

To be honest, I tried many times to build this kind of ship
but I failed every single time and started wondering:
“What could I be doing wrong? Why am I always sinking?”

The last time this happened,
God had to enter my shipwrecked heart,
dive in the cold waters of death to rescue me from drowning,
for me to finally realize that
no matter how good my intentions were,
my ship’s foundation was still missing a huge piece.
He, was that missing piece.
No wonder it was sinking every time.
I mean can you imagine, being on a ship,
with a huge hole underneath and expecting it to float?
Yes, that was me.
You don’t need to be a shipyard to know otherwise.
The funny part is I can’t even swim,
I promise.

So dear future Mrs. O.
Let Christ be the one to claim ownership of our Union.
Let us build our ship on the one and only solid rock.

Even though we may meet icebergs on our journey I promise,
never will you see this ship sink with Him set as our foundation.
I may not know how to swim
but I surely know the person who calmed the storms and walked on water…

…Let us set sail in His abounding grace and mercy.
Let this ship be a living, breathing worship unto Him.
Let us make Him captain of our lives and watch this ship take us to places you’ve never even imagined,
I promise.

Yours sincerely,
Mr. O
